Strategies:
Youth Ministry
Uganda
now has a population of over 26 million. The youth are
always the most affected by wars, AIDS, immorality, cultism,
pornography, homosexuality and unemployment. Since 1983,
HIV/AIDS, has created a new generation in Uganda; a generation
of orphans, hopeless youth, jobless and Godless without discipline
and morals!
BBT
is determined to change the unprivileged into hopeful, dependable,
constructive and able citizens, capable of changing the future
for themselves and others. Two programs are implemented
by BBT, currently, to assist the youth.
GLOVIMO
BBT
started a powerful movement in 1985, among the youth and children,
popularly known as "GLOVIMO” (The Glory of Virginity Movement).
It is a Bible-based movement that travels nation-wide and teaches
the youth in Uganda about AIDS and the moral responsibility
to stay sexually pure until marriage and faithful throughout
marriage. It has special radio and TV programs that are
seen and heard accross the nation.
Together
with other Abstainance Groups, such as that of the First Lady
of Uganda, we have brought the percentage of the population
infected with AIDS from 30% in the 1980's to 6% this year in
2005! Uganda once had the largest AIDS problem
in Africa. Now the other nations of Africa are coming
to learn from Uganda.
The
idea is to encourage abstanance from sex until proper marriage.
Not only is this instilling Godly principles in these
young people, but it is also fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Our slogan is: "NO SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE". Vows
are taken by the willing youth. Continuous training through
youth camps, seminars and conferences is our approach. We also
use GLOVIMO radio and TV shows. BBT warns against premarital
sex, polygamy, pornography, homosexuality and all Western or
African sex-oriented destructive cultures.
Three
teaching programs are in place to teach differing age groups
ranging from the age of 7 to 30. Each student (age 7 to
13) receives a certificate after their training, which is a
reminder of their vows. Those students (age 14-30) receive
a button they will proudly wear, which is exchanged for a "ceremonial
lantern" on their wedding day.
This
Program WORKS! These youth are very excited and serious
about their vows. BBT has seen almost 40,000 children
and youth commit themselves to purity and has attended hundreds
of weddings. TANZANIA's church leaders have heard about
the success of GLOVIMO and have invited BBT to come and teach
them how to implement this great program.
BBT
YOUTH EMPOWERING CAMPAIGN
BBT
plans to balance our approach to these youth by empowering them
with trades and skills training to both boys and girls.
The most vulnerable youth are between 15 and 25 years.
BBT has already identified skills that can easily be accepted
by these types of kids, trades that are marketable & easy
to learn within a short time, even by those who have no type
of formal education:
Hair dressing and care, (3 month course)
Tailoring (one year course)
Motor bike and Bicycle Repair (6 month course)
Brick laying (6 month hands-on course)
Hand crafts (6 month hands-on course)
Welding (6 month hands-on course)
BBT's
special needs in this department are:
$9,700 is needed to get part of this program started
Training tools (available in Uganda)
3 good computers
Printing paper and ink (BBT owns a small printing machine)
Glovimo buttons (at a cost of 25 cents each)
Glovimo truck (to help with the nation-wide campaign)
$800/month for Glovimo Radio and TV Program costs
We
welcome you to join BBT in empowering these wonderful youth
so they will become constructive citizens of both the Kingdom
of God and Uganda. We need your financial assistance
to purchase the training tools budgeted at US$5,700.
